How to Play Decaying Winter

Decaying Winter drops up to five players onto EDEN-227, a hostile planet where survival means mastering a repeating loop: loot by day, hide from the storm, defend by night, repeat until evacuation or wipe. Developed for Roblox with keyboard and mouse as a hard requirement, it is closer to a co-op survival shooter than a tycoon or simulator. This guide explains how a full session flows, what each phase demands, and where to read next on the wiki.

Before you queue

Install Roblox on PC, connect a mouse, and skim Controls so interact, reload, crouch, and ability keys feel natural. Pick a perk—new players should run Survivalist per the Beginner Build—and traits like Calm or Survivor from the Trait Tier List.

Decaying Winter has no promo codes. The Codes page exists to document that fact and steer you away from scam links. Progression unlocks perks through XP earned by surviving nights—see Grind XP.

Avoid Scripts; the game description warns that exploiting yields permanent bans. Griefing teammates in public servers can yield temporary bans and votekicks.

Session structure: ten nights to evac

Most runs target ten nights of escalating waves. Early nights introduce scavengers—humanoid threats that test aim and ammo discipline. Mid nights bring militarized raiders with higher pressure and armor. Late nights add supernatural enemies that punish sloppy positioning. Your squad must conserve meds and ammo across the whole run, not spend everything on night two.

Day phase — loot and explore

When the sun is up, leave your hold and loot structures for weapons, ammunition, medical kits, food, water, and armor. Day is the only safe window to gear the team for upcoming nights. Split routes logically: Frontline players stay near patrol paths, Backline players cover sightlines, Support players prioritize meds and utility.

Do not loot until the storm warning surprises you. The daytime storm on EDEN-227 is lethal to exposed players. When storm indicators appear, return to shelter immediately—finish only what is one room away. The Looting Guide covers route timing and share lists.

Storm phase — shelter and maintenance

Storm time is not AFK time. Manage hunger, thirst, and temperature debuffs, share supplies, repair morale by confirming everyone has meds, and plan night positions. Support perks like Lazarus and Prophet shine in calm coordination moments before waves spawn.

Players who wander into the storm die alone and force 4v5 nights. Treat storm deaths as griefing yourself.

Night phase — defend the hold

Night spawns waves at your defensive line. Frontline perks (Zealot, Arbiter, Berserker) anchor chokepoints. Backline perks (Artillerist, Executioner) focus priority targets. Support perks (Sovereign, Hivemind, Lazarus) provide thralls, bees, heals, and buffs.

Call fall-backs early. A controlled retreat beats a wipe that deletes all progress. Read Survive the Night for hold templates and ability timing.

Co-op roles and etiquette

Matchmaking assigns strangers with different perk mains. Use Role Builds language—Frontline, Backline, Support—to negotiate positions in chat. Stack duplicate roles and you will lose to balanced comps from the Team Comp Tier List.

Share meds and ammo before nights three and six—those are common wipe checkpoints. Use votekick sparingly and only for griefing, not because someone picked Survivalist.

Progression and meta

Unlock stronger perks after learning fundamentals. Arbiter, Sovereign, and Hivemind dominate high-level discussion on the Perk Tier List, but they fail in hands that skip tutorials. Grind XP efficiently without ruining teammates’ runs.

Track balance changes on Trello. Use Tools for optional planning when available.
