Decaying Winter Team Comp Tier List
Ranked five-player lineups for wave survival—with role coverage and pub-lobby realism.
Decaying Winter is built around five-player co-op. Individual perk tier lists tell you who is strong alone; team comp tier lists tell you who wins together on EDEN-227. The best compositions cover four roles: a Frontline anchor, a Backline damage source, Support sustain or buffs, and area control that punishes enemy pushes—plus a flex slot that adapts to map POI and night wave type.
Tier criteria for full squads
We rank team comps by consistency across public lobbies, not flawless premade execution only. S-tier comps survive mediocre day loot, partial storm mistakes, and one teammate who has not read How to Play. Comps that require voice comms, perfect trait sync, and god-roll weapons drop a tier in public matchmaking.
S Tier team compositions
Classic Control Core
Zealot + Arbiter + Sovereign + Hivemind + Lazarus
This is the textbook answer when players ask what comp wins Decaying Winter. Zealot tanks first contact. Sovereign thralls split raider focus. Hivemind bees slow and damage pushers in the kill lane. Arbiter cleans up with Knuckle Boom burst. Lazarus keeps the front alive when med kits thin after night six.
Synergy caveat: Sovereign and Hivemind need lane discipline. If Vagabond teammates roam, thralls and swarms scatter and the comp drops to A-tier instantly.
Burst Priority Stack
Zealot + Executioner + Sovereign + Artillerist + Lazarus
When supernatural elites and armored raiders dominate late nights, Executioner and Artillerist delete priority targets while Sovereign distracts. Zealot holds the door; Lazarus prevents wipe during focus fire.
Caveat: narrow maps with bad Backline sightlines hurt Artillerist—swap to Crosslink or Prophet flex if POI blocks shots.
A Tier team compositions
Flexible Pub Stack
Zealot + Arbiter + Lazarus + Hivemind + Vagabond
Vagabond flex fills loot runner, secondary Frontline, or emergency Backline. Slightly weaker than Sovereign versions on distraction, but more forgiving when one player is under-leveled or running Beginner Build traits.
Prophet Command
Zealot + Prophet + Crosslink + Artillerist + Lazarus
Organized groups with callouts love Prophet and Crosslink buff packages. In silent pub lobbies this comp underperforms—communication raises it to S-tier in premades.
Riskrunner Gamble
Zealot + Riskrunner + Sovereign + Hivemind + Lazarus
When Riskrunner resources align, wave clear speed is unmatched. One bad resource night and you are playing 4v5. High skill ceiling, A-tier not S-tier for general recommendation.
B Tier team compositions
Double Frontline Pub Queue
Zealot + Arbiter + Berserker + Artillerist + Survivalist
Common in matchmaking because everyone wants to melee. Works early nights, collapses when supernatural waves demand control and healing. Teach teammates Survive the Night positioning or swap one Frontline for Support.
All Backline Experiment
Artillerist + Executioner + Prophet + Vagabond + Hivemind
Meme comps that die the moment scavengers touch your line. Fun in private servers, B-tier at best for evac attempts.
C Tier — challenge comps
Triple Damned or triple Riskrunner stacks, zero Support lineups, and no area denial five-stacks belong here. Skilled friends can still clear—random teammates will votekick before night five.
Role coverage checklist
Before you queue, confirm:
- At least one Frontline (Zealot, Arbiter, Berserker)
- At least one Backline (Artillerist, Executioner)
- At least one Support or control (Lazarus, Sovereign, Hivemind, Prophet)
- Flex (Vagabond, Crosslink, Survivalist fill)
- Day loot plan—see Looting Guide so night starts with ammo and meds
Matchmaking etiquette
Decaying Winter allows votekick for griefing. Do not pick a comp role you refuse to play—if you lock Artillerist, stay Backline. Read Controls before joining. Check Trello for comp-affecting patches. Codes do not exist; power comes from perks and teamwork. Avoid Scripts that trigger permanent bans.
Compare individual picks on the Perk Tier List and traits on Trait Tier List. Build execution lives in Roles and Grind XP for unlock order.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Decaying Winter questions.
What is the most common winning comp in public lobbies?
Variations of Zealot front, Arbiter or Executioner damage, Sovereign or Hivemind control, and Lazarus heal appear in most late-night clears.
Can I solo queue without a comp?
You must adapt to random picks. Choose flexible perks like Vagabond or Survivalist fill, or strong Support if your team lacks Lazarus.
How important is voice chat?
Helpful but not required for S-tier comps. Prophet and Crosslink comps gain the most from comms; Hivemind/Zealot comps rely more on positioning.
Should we stack all S-tier perks?
No. Role coverage beats letter grades. Three S-tier Frontline picks lose to one balanced control and sustain package.
Where do I learn map-specific comp tweaks?
Read the Enemies and Map guide for POI holds, then adjust flex slot between Vagabond mobility and Artillerist range.
