Cultist Takeover Event Guide

Cultist Takeover (also called SIN Takeover) is Decaying Winter’s first major limited event, originally shipped on 11 February 2025 and lasting roughly one week through about 23 February 2025. The SIN cult floods EDEN-227: night scavenger waves become Reikgon Cultists, daytime map pressure changes, and veteran squads unlock ally quests that reshape evacuation. As of August 2026, the live seasonal window has closed, but private servers can still recreate the mode with /legacy then /starttakeover. This guide explains what changed, how to play the event ruleset, and how it connects to Oblivion, Holdout, and standard Evacuation Protocols.

Who should read this guide

Cultist Takeover assumes you already clear standard ten-night runs. If you still wipe on night four scavengers, finish How to Play, Survive the Night, and a Beginner Build first. Event enemies hit harder than classic scav packs—community notes often cite cultist health well above typical early scavengers—so gun discipline and ammo economy from Weapons matter more than pure melee swagger.

Core rule changes

Neutral scavengers and raiders

During Takeover, many Scavengers and Raiders act neutral unless you provoke them. You can loot high-value zones—including approaches toward the Castle—with less automatic aggro. Neutrality is not immortality: shove them, shoot them, or stack enough hostile acts and they turn hostile. Community documentation describes a violence score: roughly three hostile acts flip a target to aggressive; the score decays by about one each night. If you tip a pack, disengage and reset instead of dragging a Castle war into your Safezone.

Sledge Queen and her Castle guards follow the same “neutral unless provoked” idea during the event window. That makes Castle loot more accessible, but a careless spray still starts a boss fight—read Sledge Queen before you treat the throne room like a grocery aisle.

Reikgon Cultists replace night scavengers

Night waves swap classic scavengers for Reikgon Cultists that escalate across the ten-night structure:

  • Nights 1–5: melee cultists (knife, kukri, wrenches, sabre lines) with rising density.
  • Mid nights: mixed melee and gun cultists, including dangerous akimbo and scout variants.
  • Late nights / EVAC waves: full cultist and Reikgon roster, including boss-tier threats such as Scythe / High Priest pressure and Sickler shadows.

Daytime supply search can also spawn Reikgon cultists on the map—loot routes from Looting need extra vigilance even when scavs are calm.

Portals and map tweaks

Takeover added a portal network linking major hubs such as Mountain and Outpost. Use portals to cut storm-risk travel when you must reposition for ally quests or Castle runs. Map geometry also received minor layout changes; do not assume every pre-event callout still matches—confirm landmarks with Enemies and Map and live squad pings (Z).

Perk and challenge updates

The event shipped perk buffs/changes, new titles/challenges, and cultist-specific interactions. Notably, Drifter cloaking works against cultists during Takeover. Challenge-locked perks such as Apostle, Crosslink, and Drifter remain relevant practice targets—see Perk Guide and Perk Tier List for role fit before you main a challenge perk into Turf War night.

Ally quests (up to four)

Agents can complete up to four ally quests across a Takeover run. Completing a quest recruits an ally who can assist during evacuation-style pressure, similar in spirit to Holdout communicator allies. Quests often require specific items, interactions, or boss-related objectives tied to named contacts (community guides reference figures such as Yosef, Shirose, Aila, and Cazz). Treat quest items as squad property—hoarding the last quest piece while the storm timer ticks is how Takeover pubs implode.

Allies help, but they are not a substitute for Frontline anchors or Backline lanes. Keep Role Builds discipline: one player tracks quest progress while others hold night chokes.

Turf War on night eight

On the event’s signature high-pressure night (commonly night eight), Turf War replaces the usual Scav War fantasy. Cultists and Reikgon pressure surge across the map; Safezone comfort disappears. Prepare with stocked ammo, pavises, and aux charges from Auxiliary Equipment. Call fall-backs early using habits from Survive the Night. If your squad planned ally quests, finish critical steps before Turf War locks the tempo.

Private server commands

After the live event ended, squads still practice Takeover on VIP/private servers:

  1. Load the older ruleset with /legacy when required by the current build.
  2. Start the event with /starttakeover (private server owner).

Commands can change with patches—verify on Trello and Discord before a practice night. Pub matchmaking will not always force Takeover outside official event windows.

How Takeover connects to other modes

ModeRelationship
Standard ten-night runBaseline loop; Takeover remaps enemies and neutrality
HoldoutSeparate infinite helipad mode (/startholdout); shares ally/communicator vibes
Evacuation ProtocolsStandard veteran ending; Takeover can ease or alter EVAC with allies
OblivionAlternate ending branch introduced with Takeover part three

If your goal is the Oblivion path, finish Takeover literacy first—Oblivion’s Mountain drone steps and Nightmare waves assume you can already handle Reikgon density.

Loadout advice for Takeover

  • Prefer guns early—cultist HP pools punish under-geared melee openers.
  • Keep Drifter / stealth tools in mind for cultist-heavy looting.
  • Bring Support (Lazarus, Sovereign, Hivemind) for Turf War spikes.
  • Stock meds and rations before night eight; morale stacks still delete aim—see Morale.
  • Do not grief neutrals for fun; every provoked Castle pack is XP you spend twice.

Progression reminder

Takeover does not add promo codes. Rewards still come from surviving runs, challenges, and mastery—read Codes and Earn Rewards. Exploiting remains a permanent ban path per Scripts.

Where to go next

  1. Oblivion Ending — Takeover part-three finale.
  2. Evacuation Protocols — standard veteran ending contrast.
  3. Holdout Mode — infinite practice for boss telegraphs.
  4. Perk Guide — Apostle, Drifter, Crosslink unlock context.
  5. Official Trello — live balance and event cards.

Master Cultist Takeover and EDEN-227 stops feeling like a scavenger tutorial—it becomes a cult war you can still win with discipline, portals, and four well-timed allies.
